Alecia and I did a quick health check, weight, and nail trim on each rabbit before loading them into carriers for the trip home, along with a couple bales of hay, a bag of feed, both of my metal feed storage bins, 2 rows of the oversize quonset cages, a small army of plastic crates (support/legs underneath the cages), and a trio of spare cages until I get my next set of oversize quonset cages built. There was a lot of work to getting everything loaded, and then unloaded and the rabbits settled once we got back to my house, but thankfully Alecia's teenagers, Bell and Rio, were able and willing to help be extra muscle :)
I finished securing the tarps over the cages (sun/wind/rain shelter), did another evening check-in on them, and then got them started on their new normal routine Thursday morning. The Am Chins settled right back in, being used to the sights and sounds on our farm, and though the Cremes are still a little unsure, each day they're relaxing more into our routine here.
I cannot express how grateful and happy I am that they were (and the goats will remain for another couple of weeks) in such good care with Alecia at Edelweiss Ranch & Rabbitry in Graham WA (http://www.edelweissranch.com)!
Below are pics of stage 1 of the long term temporary rabbitry. After the tree clean up is complete, we'll put up perimeter fence, rotational grazing paddocks, a farm shed, and the permanent rabbitry - until then, it's going to look much like this, not pretty, but very functional.
