However, making a rock solid plan with trusted recommendations, and sticking to that plan, is oddly comforting.
I have culled some rabbits, quarantined others, and begun an aggressive and lengthy treatment regimen for Sarah and both of her litters (2 bucks out of her first litter with me, and 4 kits out of her second litter with me), and also for the buck she was most recently bred to, Hank. I chose the treatment plan with a higher dose and longer duration, because, although it carries more risk to each rabbit, I feel that there is zero chance of VD surviving it; to me, it's worth the risk.
Sarah's treatment was started first; her two litters were just started a few days ago, because I was still debating if I should keep them or cull them. The more they matured, the more they looked worth saving, so I decided to give it a try. She was getting Calf Manna, BOSS, and oatmeal mixed in with her feed, plus Probiotics in her water - all her systems were completely normal except for a slight loss of weight. Since she has regained her lost weight, she now just gets her pellets and hay, plus dandelion leaves and other good treats; I don't want her waddling from overindulgence lol
As for her kits, the 2 older bucks don't even seem bothered, except for the needle; they are maintaining weight, energy, and seem normal in all areas. The 4 younger kits, however, have been hit hardest; they're hanging in there so far, but they have noticeably lost weight. They also get oatmeal and other treats along with their daily pellets, hay and probiotic water. I am hopeful they will pull through, but it's possible I may lose some or all.
Hank and his son from another doe (previous to being bred to Sarah), just arrived home with me today; Hank will start tonight on the same lengthy regimen that the others are already partway through.
