When I started raising purebred rabbits, I very excitedly dove into breed specific club memberships, which certainly have their place and are useful; just not for me ;) On my limited income, all these memberships meant too much money going out, when I should have been saving that money for better stock, better housing, better food. We tried out different housing options for the rabbits, and have nearly come full circle, from starting with outdoor hutches, and now with the plan to move forward with colony housing for each breed.
Since the Farm Consultation, it has all come back to simplifying, and making what we raise make sense, and work for us. This means not overextending, letting the breed club memberships go, and just focus on keeping and buying the best stock I can afford, and building my rabbitry from there...again.
There may be a book in the future, to help others interested in the same process to avoid many of the pitfalls we endured.
More and better things to come soon! :)
