I've staked out quite a bit of kitchen counter top real estate for use in propagating seeds indoors, and so far, I've successfully gotten salvaged grocery store lemon seed, lettuce, cabbage, pineapple, avocado seed, sweet potato and mango seed underway. I'm using simple holiday rope lights woven among the young delicate plants; they provide just a slight amount of heat to keep the seedlings happy while they develop roots and true leaves.
I've also planted rose seed from multiple sources, English Ivy (for indoor houseplants ONLY), weeping willow, Italian Plum, and made a seedling swap with a neighbor for giant pumpkin, herbs and tomatoes (thank you, Kenneth-Michael!).
Amazingly, some of our fruit trees are still alive (surprising, because they're still in pots, and they were seriously neglected last year!
In the pic below, the cabbage, lettuce and onion that were grocery store salvage plants are now outside and doing well. The celery died a slow and pathetic death. The avocado seeds have almost all split and are in their own pots with soil, still on the counter top - this is as close as I've been able to get in successfully growing them into actual young trees, so they're enjoying my paranoia of losing them all by getting an extended stay with the warming lights lol The pineapple has nice roots and will get its own pot with soil today.
